Tiny Speckles

Wednesday, December 11th.

No, I don’t mean snow sparkles, or ice sparkles – I mean the inside of the house sparkles! We walk in today and the whole house has been “textured.” Not the clumpy texture of the 70’s, but much smaller “speckles” on the wall.

I know, you really have to take my word about the speckles! I was so excited, I forgot to take closeups! However, as you can see, It really is coming together!!

Every door and window was covered with plastic for protection. Kind of gave it a muted light (because of the plastic and the over-spray from the texture machine).

Even with the windows draped with plastic, we had a lot of light coming in! YAY!

Even the Garage!

Even the Garage!

Yes, even the garage got speckled!!

Have to show you the funny picture:

Window of Humidity

Window of Humidity

When we pulled up to the house, there were gobs of trucks and vans along the road – some from our house and the rest from the new house going in. The house across the street was still quiet. So we parked the truck and got out just as our Contractor walked around his van. We could tell he was happy. Immediately inside the front door our glasses became so fogged up it created a traffic jam! Texturizing the walls creates humidity. It looked so different from Monday, we just started walking around staring at the walls and ceiling in a daze. I was so enthralled I took a pic in the master bedroom with a camera that was still fogged up – we’d wiped our glasses after we came in the house – but didn’t think about the cameras! I still don’t think “camera first” when I get excited! I guess it takes time… 😀

Neato things to happen:

  • Uncle from WA to start on trim.
  • Garage door to be installed tomorrow.
  • Flooring (laminate) for main rooms will be delivered on site tomorrow.
  • kitchen cabinets to be installed.

WOW! Things are sure happening fast now!  Hope to see changes quickly. Still have the Electric and Gas lines to be connected and turned on. The rest of the HVAC installed. Plumbing connected… still lots of basic things to do. But big changes are coming!!!

Inner Beginnings

Now that they have a lot on the outside of the house sealed up to continue working, we will be seeing more of the inside changing bit by bit.

The shingles are still on the roof, but they are not even, like before. Hmmmm. Wonder what this means… Nothing we can see from the West side of the house.

The driveway and front porch are now concrete. Today, we find “surprise!‘ our back porch!

Back Porch

Back Porch

We chose this house layout because we wanted it to be completely accessible: No stairs. No multiple levels. Our contractor is doing incredibly well on this count! We have no steps to the front porch. We have no steps from garage into house! Now we have no steps to the back porch. It is a house to age gracefully in. (Although anyone that knows me knows I am not one bit graceful.)

New porcelain items: no – not the toilets – yet! But the plumbers are putting in the guest accessible shower.

Also they have unboxed the main bath tub! (Willy is going to be extatic!)

Shiny new metal for the HVAC! Our old furnace was mounted under the house, horizontally. This box is tall (& vertical!)  Ya just never know how they’re gonna surprise you next!

Well, we’re finished for today inside our house.

Staged, Painted Doors

Now we traipse (in the warm car, of course) up to another house to see some wall color.

We saw the wall color but were intrigued by the painted doors leaning up against the walls – we felt we were watching stagers getting ready for a show (in the end, most houses are on show, huh?

And, interestingly, we are behind our house and get to see why the stacks of shingles are not even any more!

New Roof Shingles

New Roof Shingles

The picture doesn’t capture the partialness of the shingles on the roof well. Only the far away part of the roof is not complete. Also, the shingles seem to be put on diagonally. I bet this is something I never knew: that shingles must be put on in a particular way (makes perfect sense though.)

This is getting interesting and interesting-er…

Got Floors?

Well, yes! At least we have the base level beginnings of floors!!! WooHoo!

The other assignment we had today was to choose colors for the house. We chose these:

Tan and Antique Brown

Tan and Antique Brown

Lighter colors go well with the surrounding prairie, IMO. Many of the other houses are light to dark gray, brownish gray, dark red and a few olive greens thrown in. We had to notice what colors the neighbors used then choose for ourselves.

Previously, we chose the cabinet type and wood stain (ash) and the laminate color (barnwood). Further along we will choose the carpeting color and the wall paint. Going through this before with our previous house made the decisions about color not as “life or death”.

We still have LOTS of stuff that we need to rid ourselves of, because this house won’t hold it! We just love pushing ourselves!! LOL!
