The Longest Gap

Well, I guess you can tell, I had a l-o-n-g gap in posting. We moved. I forgot how totally consuming it is to try to move in a short amount of time (the last move was l-o-n-g and slow and monumental.)

One of my biggest problems: two days into the move, I misplaced my camera. Given the state of the rental house and our new house – I had to give up any thought of spending time to find it.

Great items:

1) We left the rental house very clean (moreso than when we moved in.)

2) We keep falling in love with the design of the house and the comfort within it!

Fun (for us) items:

Antelope live up the street from us! Yes, we are still suckers for wildlife!!! (We don’t have the scopes out (yet), but we love seeing all wildlife!) To date we have seen Antelope, Mule Deer, Bald Eagles, & Crows. We’ve heard there’s a prairie dog town in the area where you see the antelope in the picture below. Can’t wait to take pics!

Our Native Neighbors

The task of unpacking is intense, but there are certain accomplishments that count!

Getting the books onto the shelves and the train in place.

Those of you who assisted us in this gargantuan move from WA  (Three trips, three storage units) know the enormity of what we have to sort thru! Moving in means that we are sorting, trashing, and getting ready to garage sale items – all at the same time!

Whew! what an adventure!

Things I’m grateful for:

A garage (limited scraping of snow off the vehicle unless the truck is moved outside to make way for boxes)

More variation in temperatures in February (We’ve gotten up to 59 degrees here one day40’s, at least 8 days) December and January were much C-o-l-d-e-r!!

Our health has been great!!!

I do not know the frequency of posts now, but I will determine a schedule!

And then there was light… No, better… Digging Machines and piles of dirt!! Day ONE: Tuesday, 10/8

Big Machine, Dirt and New Beginnings!

Big Machine, Dirt and New Beginnings!

Our new adventure begins!

It’s Tueday, 10/8/2013 just after 12 noon.

There’s more dirt than I’d imagined!  One Interesting item is that they left a little island of “virgin earth” to support the garage. (You can see it in the picture.)  That’s interesting.  I never would have thought of that – but it makes sense.  Altho part of me would love to play in that backhoe, I know I would be too uncoordinated with other houses in hitting distance – that would NOT be a good way to meet neighbors! So, I’ll skip that adventure for now.

Virgin Prairie (sortof)

Virgin Prairie (sortof)

This is the beginning. Monday, 10/7/2013.

The place where dreams begin. But, not really, this is where the dreams get actualized.

We’d come to Sheridan in early August to house-hunt. We did not find what we really wanted. We even made an offer on a place, but we were turned down. Then we decided to see about building what we wanted.

We found an area we liked. Found a contractor… and we were off – back to close on our house in WA.

We’d settled on an architectural plan and features (in a very general way).

When we left our old house, we had two days of travel. Within 3 hours of arriving in our town, we purchased a lot.  Wow! I wonder if that is a record?  Well, it is for us at least!

This is the beginning of the second part of our adventure (remodeling and selling being the first).  This is the part of the adventure we sometimes couldn’t believe would ever come to fruition.  Now we get to experience it with all its ups and downs, excitement and dread. This is our “Birth of a House.
